What was BIMI again?

BIMI is an email standard introduced in 2019. With BIMI, companies can have their logo automatically displayed next to their emails in the recipient's inbox. Recipient can see this logo even before the message is opened. BIMI should make it easier for recipients to recognize senders and distinguish them from phishing mails. BIMI is being developed by a working group consisting of i.e. 250ok, Verizon, Google and LinkedIn. The focus of BIMI is particularly on the areas of email security and marketing.

The biggest advantages of BIMI

For email senders:

  • Visualization of the efforts made in implementing and optimizing DMARC;
  • Easy management of logos, making sure the right one is displayed.

For inbox providers:

  • Reduced risk of phished users;
  • Improved UX.

For marketing:

  • Increased brand value in the inbox
  • Increased open rates (reportedly, BIMI-certified emails already score 10% higher OR)
